The Industrial development has been both a blessing and a curse to America. It has been a blessing because there was more food, more people, and more product. There was faster transportation, Medicine, Invention, and Communication. The cursing of industrial development are that There was war/competition, pollution/bad environment, slavery, and dehumanizing people and their families.
Were big Business leaders "captains of industry" or "robber barons"?
Big business leaders can be considered "captains of industry" or "robber barons"; both can be argued. Business leaders such as Vanderbilt, Rockefeller, or Ford can be considered "robber barons" due to the fact that they did anything they could to achieve great wealth. They exploited their workers by forcing them to work in horrible conditions and the labor practices were unfair. On the other hand however, business leaders such as Carnegie were "captains of industry". These leaders transformed the American economy with their business skills and were praised for their charity.
Should business be regulated closely by government?
No because having a competition will be more motivated and have much more of an free market. While the businesses that are regulated closely by government suffer through success, there will be a lot of interruptions. Regulation hurts the consumer more than it should have helped them.
Should business be allowed to combine and reduce competition?
Business should not be allowed to combine and reduce competition because it could result in monopolies and trusts. If competition is reduced then one company will be all there is. This will lead to an increase in prices and could lead to an economic depression. Monopolies relate to communism in which one company controls all of the others. Although little merging can be beneficial it is not wise to completely combine competition. There are regulations set in place for a reason.

Yes workers can attain economic justice without violence. One way is to organize peaceful workers' strikes. The workers simply stop working in order to push towards the change they are wanting. Strikes are the most effective way due to the fact that when the labor stops, the boss and the business lose money. Workers unions are also another great way to attain economic justice without violence. These unions offered benefits that most factories did not. They also worked with business owners to help negotiate what workers felt needed to be changed.
