I believed strongly in producerism. I believed that citizens who engaged in society by producing tangible wealth benefitted more from society than those who inherited their wealth such as aristocrats. I did not see the labor movement as a revolution. I viewed it as a cooperative brotherhood of workers.
I urged laborers to save their money in order to purchase places of employment such as mines or stores. This would lead to utopia because labor would own the enterprises and labor-capital conflict would disappear. I did not believe in strikes and stopped them as often as i could. Some strikes were successful and maybe i should not have tried to stop them.
I pushed for the eight-hour work day and higher wages. By having an eight-hour day, workers will be able to see their families and spend time with their families as well as provide for them.
I do not support immigration, especially the Chinese. Immigrants take all of the jobs and drive down our wages. I strongly support the Chinese Exclusion Act. Also, the wage system and employers' monopoly on power were the core of the problem between employees and their employers. The working class is being abused by the wealthy and I do not support socialism.
